DEEPER IN THE LIFE OF COEN RHYS...
His upcoming EP "Turn me Upside Down - Shake My Mind Out" (TMUDSMMO DITTO LINK - https://ditto.fm/turn-me-upside-down-shake-my-mind-out) is out on all streaming platforms from Sunday 18th September 2022 #TMUDSMMO
He was born and still lives in Scotland, a fan of an eclectic mix of music. He considers himself first and foremost to be a guitar player - At the age of 11, as a self-taught and "experimental" musician/ songwriter - he wrote his first song before he could actually play. Since then he has a catalogue of over 400 unreleased demos, he continues to learn the piano as well as trying his hand at many instruments he has acquired on his travels: sangari, harmonic, kalimba to name a few.
After writing music for about 20 years he decided to share his music with the world - even some of his
friends and family are yet to hear his music - but those who have heard it love the cryptic, nostalgic, raw and emotive vibes. He first shared "From There is Where You Become" (FTIWYB DITTO LINK - https://ditto.fm/from-there-is-where-you-become-coen-rhys) in 2020: a 9 track "pre-debut" as he describes it, by pulling together his favorite 10 demos at the time.
In 2021 he release "Middle of Nowhere (Near the End of the World)" (MONNTEOTW DITTO LINK - https://ditto.fm/middle-of-nowhere-near-the-end-of-the-world) a 5 track EP of experimentation, and "playing about '' with his new purchases - his home studio.
Coen sees every day as a school day and loves learning new things and there is never a dull moment as Coen not only writes, performs, records, mixes all his own material, but as a true independent artist he also enjoys designing the artwork to his projects as well as creating visualizers and lyric videos to complement his releases.

Now onto the main event: Turn Me Upside Down - Shake My Mind Out A review by SchizoFranic
THE REVIEW...
The first track that I am reviewing is, "Footprints of Love". This song starts out with lovely organ sound surrounding your ears, with an beautifully done electronic lead that leads in to the vocals. At the verse Coen sings, "Don't loose yourself to everyone..." this is a kinda of song that gives you the impression of loving yourself and not to spread yourself thin. The percussion is well played in this track it gets your toes taping and your head bobbin. This has to be one of my favorite track on Coen's EP.
The second track on the EP that I reviewed is called, " Dull Sound of shinning Darkness". And this track starts out with dancing synth sound accompanied by piano, just brilliant! Fallowing next comes in guitars and drums along with vocals singing, "Stars don't shin without darkness the darkness will keep us warm..." Wow the guitar parts are amazing in this track, hats off Coen! Again another track with amazing drumming this track is all around amazing a must listen to.
The third track I reviewed on the EP is called, "Flashes". This track starts out groovy with a cymbal crash and a synth pulsing along with the rhythm that leads into the vocals and piano in a really groovy fashion. The synths are amazing in the track. Part of the lyrics Coen sings is, "What Mine is Yours, Love is Blind". A perfect way to put how love is supposed to be. The bridge is truly outstanding a burst of sound to pulsing rhythmic sounds. I really liked this song this track is definitely a must listen to.
The fourth track on the EP that I reviewed is, "Apologies Apologies". And this track starts out with soft slow synth sound almost like its floating in the distance then the track bursts with sound. Piano is beautifully played vocals sound as if Coen is in the distance. At the verse Coen sings, " Hold Your Head Up High...". This track has outstanding horn playing Coen has his daughter Isla play her tenor horn on his tracks, she did an outstanding job on this track. My hat is off to Isla!
The fifth track on the EP that I'm reviewing is, "Write a Letter". This track starts out with piano and a tambourine playing in rhythm along with a drum beating lightly leading into the vocals singing, "Yesterday seems far away tomorrow can't come to soon...". piano comes in with the bass part that leads into an beautiful sounding piano and guitar being picked together. Coen incorporated vocals in the distance towards the end of the track that sound amazing. This is a another must listen to truly a beautiful track. This is an absolutely wonderful track I think I found another favorite song by Coen. Truly amazing melody and just an all around fantastic track!
The sixth track the I received on Coen's EP is called, "No Reason - No Rhyme". This track starts oust with a sparkling synth sound accompanied by a piano along with a tambourine that leads into the horn, vocals and bass. The horn is beautifully played. The vocals at the bridge Coen sings, "No Reason No Rhyme, No Feeling No Time..." This can me many different thing's from person to person, you decide. This is a track for a "thinker listener" as Coen would say. This track has a beautiful melody and is well played. Take some time out an give it a listen and ponder the meaning.
The seventh track and the final track on Coen's EP is called, "When the Mind Cries". This song starts out with piano and Coen singing, "The Mind Thinking, Talking To It's Self...". Something we all can relate to at least once or twice in our lives. The piano is beautifully played. Horn, bass and rhythm are incorporated at the bridge. The Horn is of course beautifully played by Isla. Toward the end of the track Coen brought in claps the go great with the mood of the track. This is an outstanding track I really enjoyed this one. I absolutely loved the flow of this track and the message.
