 About The Single "Down"

In his latest single, "Down," pMad delves into the impact people can have on one's identity and self-esteem.

The lyrics of the track paint a powerful picture of the emotional turmoil that arises when one's sense of safety and self-worth is threatened by others.

It reminds us that until we confront these issues and take action to protect ourselves, the cycle of suffering will persist.

But by recognizing the preciousness of life and choosing to break free from this cycle, we can stop it beginning again each day!

The Review... "Down"

This song starts out this drums that are just thumping with a cymbal. Playing along with the drums a guitar being played in muffled style and a bass. Reminds me of the Cure. Then the vocals come in singing, "Drop, Drop..." This track is very energetic track. It has a dark vibe to it and it leaves you hanging on to what pMad is about to say next. The guitar is absolutely fabulous and those drums are just as fabulous playing along side with the bass as pMad unfolds the story.

In conclusion, This is a fantastic band. A band that tell you how it is. pMad is a breath of fresh air compared to mainstream music today. I totally love this band. And I think if you took a listen to them you will too.

Postindustrial Poets and Time To Act - A Song About You

How it all came together...

Postindustrial Poets https://www.cooltop20.nl/in-the-spotlight/in-the-spotlight-the-postindustrial-poets/ are an alt-rock project, founded by Pete, a Brit living in Luxembourg. They have been recording since 2019 and began releasing in 2020. For their upcoming release ‘A Song About You’ they joined forces with Belgium based act Time to Act – the project of Manu Pallage, who is primarily a lyricist.

Pete: “We met before playing a gig in Belgium in November 2021. So Manu saw Postindustrial Poets live and knew what he was getting into! Manu asked if Pete would be interested in collaborating on a song and sent the lyrics over. Pete was in charge of the recording, which was all done in Luxembourg.

Manu: “Well, we were sitting by the pool in Umbria and I realized how lucky I was. I started to write about my better half. It took me a good hour writing it down as it was all obvious, but it took me three days to dare letting her read it. And … she cried…”

Pete: “The cover art is a photo of Manu’s wife – so the person the song is about. It is a romantic song. That is why we timed the release for the run up to Valentine’s Day!”

Manu wrote the lyrics a couple of years ago. He sent them to Pete of Postindustrial Poets https://www.cooltop20.nl/in-the-spotlight/in-the-spotlight-the-postindustrial-poets/ in early June 2022. They then spent a couple of months sitting on Pete’s piano – where he would work on parts of the tune between other projects. Manu wasn’t very prescriptive about how it should sound, but obviously wanted a big arrangement. Pete was interested in doing something with the kind of arrangement you used to get from big West Coast studios.

“The song is pretty chilled. At the centre of the arrangement is a pretty typical band sound: guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion. But around that you have cellos and double bass adding some depth and complexity to the sound. And there was a point where everyone said it was ready and Pete said “we are not there yet”. And he went away and wrote a countermelody for oboes that goes through the chorus. That does bring the chorus to life.”

Pete: “To me it sounds different from anything either of us have done before. And for me it was the first time I have tried to turn someone else’s lyrics into music – it was an interesting challenge!”

Pete: “The lyrics obviously have a special meaning to Manu and his wife, and there were things in the original lyric that probably meant something very specific to them. But I had to edit it down, and so I focused on keeping the parts that will mean something to – I hope – most people. I hope at the end of the editing it is still special to them, and that they will speak to a lot of people…”

The Review...

This track starts out with that groovy vibe to it. This track has amazing instrumentation with strings playing slightly in the background. The drums are well played with a subtle rim shot along with the kick drum the sets the pace of the groove to this track. the bass line is really nice it flows perfectly with the drums and the guitar that is playing in unison that leads in to the vocals singing, "She Smiles So Sweetly, And Said Why Don't You Write A Song About Me". These lovely lyrics was written by Time To Act. This is a wonderful love song. That kinds of love song that you would play for someone that you would want them to know that you really love them inside and out.

In Conclusion, If you ever want to let some that you love know that you love them, well this is the song for you. This song has a groovy but lovely feel to it. I also love the fact that they incorporated stringed instruments in the song that gives the song a romantic touch. I love the message of love between two people even if one of them has faults at times. This is an all around great love song that you can listen to time and time again.

KNETX - "Ruined"

You know, during my twenty years in the music business I've heard about a million grunge bands that all claim to be the next Nirvana and obviously, 99% of those don't even come close. This is why I don't go for this genre very often. The problem is that usually, even though always loud, these track, fort the most part at least, lack real fire and the explosive energy that you need to hear in order for your brain to register that you are listening to grunge. If you open your dictionaries, the definition for the word grunge is: dirt. Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks once sung about "life getting you dirty." I feel that grunge should do the same thing. It should get you dirty.

"Ruined" by KNETX (how you pronounce the name of the group is beyond me) is a track that's sleazy enough to get the job done: you'll get dirty. That of course is not the track's real merit. The real merit is that this song is a brilliantly written pop/rock tune that's played and sung with such vigour and passion that it won't leave anybody cold. In fact, it's such an electrifying performance that if you feel unmoved when listening to it, you need to get your head and heart examined.

Rohit Sen – "Sudden Complacence"

5 out of 5

"Sudden Complacence" is an original track that has a great bass line, kick-ass guitars and powerful lead vocals. It's a very good composition and I dig the lyrics a lot. However, the real attention getter here is the coda that's the longest part of the song, some nice guitar playing there and you got to love the outro's drums that are played with brushes. Just want to say that this is what all indie pop should be like: innovative and brilliant.

 ECHLO – "Head High"

ECHLO's "Head High" is a bone-chilling alt/art pop track. It has a very ambitious arrangement and vocals that are absolutely fantastic. And "I can't breath" is a great hook both melodically and lyrically. Well, the score I am giving it says it all: bravo!

Island Asylum - Tomorrow Is Another Day

An incredibly original tune with a plethora of surprises throughout. I'm not sure if there is any other band out there that sounds exactly like this. Island Asylum is a true original. Great melodies, great lyrics, fantastic guitars and a brilliant arrangement. Those of you who like their music progressive, check this out. You'll love it!

Darren Holland Project's New Single ..."Hey" Coming Soon!!

WHO IS THE DHP?

The DHP hail from Grain Valley, MO, and consists of Darren Holland and Cheryl Holland, a husband and wife duo with Andy Oxman of Soundworks Recording studies as producer. Their music is an orgasmic pop sound. Each track will transcend you to a world of musical bliss and keep your feet tapping.

Darren lyrically writes about life, the good, the bad, and the ugly. He writes the story of everyone he knows and everyone he meets, and people that are gone in his life. Darren writes about t sex,  drugs, and the mental issues we all have at times. So his stories can be viewed differently by each person who listens and whom it touches.

Darren is the dark, while Cheryl is the light.
Cheryl sings and plays percussion, flute, and drums on some tracks. Her bold singing and attitude give The Darren Holland Project a different feel and give the songs the punch they need.

The single "Hey" will be released on September 1st, 2022. The song Hey is for a girl who made a choice, and I stood by her. It was her body, not her crime!

THE REVIEW..."HEY"

This track starts out with pounding drums that immediately gets you heart pumping and your head bobbin. Accompanied with the drum is bright sounding guitars picking out the melody to lead into the vocal's singing, "Hey, What can I say.." Transitioning into the chorus stating what the individual of this track is going though with their struggle. This is a track about really being a friend and standing up for a friend or loved one, and helping them get through their trying times. I really enjoyed the melody of this track with the guitars and vocals mixing together that give you an alternative rock feel. The drums well played, pound all through the track, truly outstanding!

In conclusion, I really loved the message of this track. A message of standing by a friend or a loved one in their time of need. A track about being someones rock, and literally helping someone through their pain. With the Darren Holland Project's message along with their totally heart pumping track mixed with the lead vocals, along side the beautifully sung background singer singing in unison, while the guitar's play roaring chords, gives you a feeling that every now and then we make choices that not all agree with, but when you think you are all alone, there is sometimes someone willing to reach out their hand, and stand by you against all odds.
