“Travelin’ Heart” by Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard

I have vivid memories of driving down Highway 1 with my parents many years ago, traveling from L.A. to San Francisco. If I close my eyes, I can still picture the scenery: the Pacific Ocean, Big Sur, the steep rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, and lush forests. “Travelin’ Heart” by Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard brings back so many memories of that particular trip. It’s a track stamped with a strong Americana spirit. When you listen to it, you can almost feel the wind in your hair and see the coastline rushing by. It’s a fantastic indie folk-pop offering that is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

“Travelin’ Heart” is driven by acoustic guitars and excellent surf rock–flavoured guitar licks. The pedal steel is a wonderful addition to the verses, and I especially like what the bass is doing during the more restrained sections of the song. But the true star of the track is Turner’s vocals. They are soft yet deeply passionate, beautifully performed and produced, with double-tracked choruses — a very Beatlesque trick that always works. It’s all incredibly well done.

But “Travelin’ Heart” is more than just a strong performance. It’s a terrific song with a great composition and memorable lyrics. It’s a real treat for fans of Americana, country, or indie pop, and the perfect companion for a road trip — or even just your morning drive to work. I love it.
