The Review... "Down"

This song starts out this drums that are just thumping with a cymbal. Playing along with the drums a guitar being played in muffled style and a bass. Reminds me of the Cure. Then the vocals come in singing, "Drop, Drop..." This track is very energetic track. It has a dark vibe to it and it leaves you hanging on to what pMad is about to say next. The guitar is absolutely fabulous and those drums are just as fabulous playing along side with the bass as pMad unfolds the story.

In conclusion, This is a fantastic band. A band that tell you how it is. pMad is a breath of fresh air compared to mainstream music today. I totally love this band. And I think if you took a listen to them you will too.

An Interview With Lorenzo Gabanizza About Their New Single, "I Don't Want To Live Without You" Plus about him..

I had the opportunity to hear "I Don't Want To Live Without You". It is a magnificent track even in it's ruff state. I truly enjoyed the guitars, and the story that is being told. the background singers sound like angels! This is just an fantastic track. this track had me bobbin my head, again to a  truly stunning track. This track is something to look forward to, reader's. You will truly love it. I also had the great opportunity to interview Lorenzo Gabanizza about the track and some of his other thoughts.

                               The Lorenzo Gabanizza Interview

1.    What made you want to become a musician? How did it all start?

To answer the first question, I could say that it was a natural and obvious process. Because there was no desire to become a musician: I just was a musician. At the age of three I began to sing, without anyone forcing it on me, at five, to play a small two-octave orange accordion. At seven years old to play drums and guitar, so you see, it was just a process. I suppose I've already answered the second question, but I could tell that I remember one day in particular, where I saw my brother Max tinkering with our old Europhon record player. He had hooked up a microphone to the speakers and put the Beatles record "She loves you" on the turntable. He invited me to try singing and so did my parents. At first, hearing my voice coming out of the speakers was such a bizarre sensation that I couldn't stop laughing. Then I really started singing and never stopped.

2.    What inspired you to write "I Don't Want To Live Without You"?

One of my favorite books is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I suppose because the passionate,

virulent, tantalizing love of the two protagonists suits my inner torments and the essence of who I am and how I love. Therefore, inspired by a personal experience, I developed the theme and I wanted to sanctify it, so to speak, with the presence of a magnificent gospel choir. The deep meaning of the track will be partially revealed in the video clip, but I can't reveal anything, firstly because it would ruin the surprise and secondly, because it is right to leave the audience free to elaborate what they will see and hear.

 3.    What was the process that you had to go through to make this track?

A long and hard chiseling process. To say the truth, not yet finished. Above all to include each tool and enhance it. Anyone who understands mixing knows perfectly well that having many instruments together is like working in a cupboard crammed with precious porcelain. Of course, I could have included fewer instruments in the arrangement, but that would have twisted the original idea: this song was supposed to be epic, mighty, glorious. Because these are the adjectives that fit eternal realities like love and death, which the song is about.

4.    What’s the bands line up?

Terrific. Judge by yourself. On Lead and background vocals Jeff Christie and myself. On drums, Paul Fenton which is currently T-Rex drummer. On bass, the one and only Kev Moore, who’s the bass player of many projects, not least his band “Witch Cross” that is getting the stages of all Europe in fire. I have to add that the song will be released also in a orchestral version: orchestra, bass, acoustic guitar, piano and voices. In that version, it will be my brother Max playing bass. On piano Hale White, a Nashville talented guy who worked among the others with Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Collin Raye. On dobro, Patrick Lyons who works for country mainstream star Colter Wall. On strings, arranged and directed by me, Richard Curran who worked for the great Bert Jansch (Pentagle and Donovan inspirer). On trumpets, we have John Heinrich (Barry Gibb, Percy Sledge, Ronnie Millsap) and Mike Casteel (Connie Francis, Sting). On Back vocals, the gospel choir FORTUNATE Which I’d like to thank from these pages. Takisha Frost, their Manager and Karen Ksoul Bowden, Constance Devone and Tomeka Pierce: Thank you Sisters!!! The mixing is by Corey “The Magician” Moore. Mastering, by 63 times Grammy awarded Greg Calbi (worked for such as Dylan, Lennon and Bowie) and Steve Fallone, winner of a Grammy in 2022 for his work with Lady Gaga. The release date is not known yet, but it will be around End April if things are going as planned.

5.    Is the band Christie getting back together?

Certainly, many have thought about this and asked themselves the same question. Fans around the world etc. But I have to say no. This is not going to happen. Christie is the past. Surely a glorious past and an integral part of who Jeff and I are as musicians, but neither of us are interested in a resurrection of the band. We prefer to keep moving forward rather than keep looking back.

6.    What are the essential qualities that make a good musician?

Have a good ear. Have an open communication through the inner world and the outside world. Being honest. Being able to establish a connection with their audience.

7.    What was the best concert you’ve seen and why?

I remember two concerts. And it will surprise you because they are two culturally polar opposite musicians: Donovan and Mike Shinoda. At the Donovan concert I attended as a staff member and led the lighting rig and partially sat at the mixer with Pat. An unforgettable experience, and the opportunity to see from within a true myth of music and an exceptional person. Concerning Mike’s gig, it's a different story. Chester Bennington had recently died and that concert in Milan was a post-traumatic group therapy for everyone, including Mike. It must be said that, at the end of the concert, I delivered my personal letter to Mike's bodyguard but I never received a reply. It would be interesting to find out if the security guy kept his promise to deliver it in his hands.

8.    What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?

I don't predict the future. And I don't care to predict it. I have hopes, sure. What I hope is to be able to do this job with serenity.

9.    Which instrument is your favorite to play and why?

I play many instruments, but the guitar is the one I use the most because of its ease of handling and versatility.

10.    Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

Many, actually. Jeff Christie, because he was there at the beginning and he became part of my childhood: I really admire his ability to play all kinds of music, his melodic and scratchy voice when needed and he is also a fantastic multi-instrumentalist. There is so much more than a Yellow River! Then, Elvis Presley. I admire him because he owns all the qualities. Bob Dylan, for his intelligence and his ability to create vehicles of thought for the masses. Neil Diamond, for his way to marry melody and love together without being sappy. Barry Ryan, Freddie Mercury and Chester Bennington for their extraterrestrial voices. Edith Piaf, for her ability to bleed her voice on stage… And many many more like Jan Matthews, Brian Hyland, Bread, Kate Bush, Donovan, John Carter, Kincade, Linkin Park, Gordon Lightfoot, Stamford bridge, Engelbert, Dawn, Beatles, Etc.

Stephen Astral has an album coming out call.... "A Different World" Read His Q&A and Review of "Sha Na Na"!

This is a Q&A from Stephen Astral about him  and what he does. At the end of this Q&A there will be a short review of one of his singles on this album. So, here  is what Stephen Astral has to say!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF. HOW YOU GOT STARTED IN MUSIC AND WHEN?

I became interested in music a the very early age of 5. we used to go to a local Baptist church and I always liked the hymns best of all.
Later in the early 1960's we heard British groups playing on television. I loved The Kinks, The Hollies, The Beatles, Dave Clark Five
In the early s 1970's I started a band and we played in local pubs. as the months rolled by I started writing and recording my music on a tape machine.
At one stage I wrote to record labels like Swansong and Decca. Meanwhile I had begun to play in a couple of clubs.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BAND?

I have several favorite bands but the two the influence me most are Genesis and Pink Floyd.

WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO BE IN THE GENRE YOU ARE IN? PLEASE TELL THE READERS WHAT IT IS THAT YOU DO, MEANING WHAT STYLE OF MUSIC YOU DO.

I have always been fond of experimental music notably Prog Rock. My music is more described as Melodic Rock.
I write stories in my music mostly and deliver them in a classic rock style. I aimed from the start to be instantly recognizable and I
think I have achieved that.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING ALBUM, "A DIFFERENT WORLD", WHATS THE STORY BEHIND IT?

The main idea behind the album was a nostalgic view of my early teens around 1967.
I had heard Sgt Pepper and it was just so different to everything else around I wanted to create something based on The Summer of Love.
There are several tracks reflecting that idea. But then I made a song about today's world and asking the question Where are we heading?
The led me to create the album name. Meaning it was a different world back in the 60's and now we live in a different world.

TELL THE READERS WHEN THE RELEASE DATE WILL BE OF "A DIFFERENT WORLD".

I am expecting the album to be available on bandcamp sometime in May '23 but the first single will be out on Spotify and YouTube in March '23

IS THERE A MESSAGE YOU ARE CONVEYING IN THIS ALBUM, LIKE BEING IN ANOTHER WORLD ETC.

No message other than Nostalgia is good but remember to enjoy your life in today's world

AND LASTLY, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO THE READERS?

This album has taken the best part of 6 months to complete.
All songs are written by Stephen W Foster except 'The Narcissist' written by Kim J Russo and Stephen W Foster
Arrangement and instruments Stephen W Foster
Drums Groove Agent by Steinberg, Kicks and snares Stephen W Foster
The mixing was done in my Recording Studio (SWFrecords) coached by Adam Whittakar with a few pointers and tips from Lucas Michalski
Mastering by Bandlab.

Willy Kuo.... "Falling Rain"

"This is an interview that Willy Kuo did and wanted to share with our readers."

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I’m based in New York.
My music style is quite versatile, R&B; Soul; Jazz; Folk; Country; Pop; Blues, even Gypsy, sometimes you may find I fusion them in my songs, but yeah, I think I like the R&B/Soul the most, as somehow my true feelings can be written easier through it!!

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

Ever since I started writing my originals, and going to some music competitions, and performing gigs, I found I’m in love with the feeling that I can share my music with the audiences, and seeing them resonate or enjoy is the most joyous thing ever.
Always having the strong desire to create good music, and I’d like the world to hear it, sometimes when I’m alone in my room practicing, I’d just imagine I’m performing a huge concert.
Perseverance, courage, confidence, they are the 3 essential elements to keep me going, but basically, a guitar, a pen, a paper, and a chair are very important to the process too.
I’d say my biggest inspirations are John Mayer; Aretha Franklin; Ed Sheeran, who are representing their own unique style of songwriting and performing, which I adore so much, the dynamics and the grooves and the emotions in their songs just epic, let alone the skills, so yes, they are the role models for my music career.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

It’s more profound and skillful, and I think it’s also can relate more to people who have/had been through the same circumstance.
Yes, I was devoted to conveying how the falling rain can make people think/feel, since every person has different stories; different backgrounds, but when you just let the rain fall on you, you can feel several types of emotions going on, sinful, angry, relaxing, at that moment, you don’t have to hide anymore, let the rain carry your emotions, be true, be real, be free under the falling rain.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

The biggest challenge I think it’s the time, as I’m also working full-time as a global assistant marketing manager, which reduces largely the time I can actually spend with my guitar and on the songwriting.
I always spare at least one and a half hour every day for my music, no matter how tired or worn out I am, because music is a great harbor to me.
Seeing good reviews of my songs, and seeing my role models are still creating works, knowing there’re still people out there enjoying good new music, all these encourage me to keep writing, also my inner voice keeps telling me that I can’t stop, because I really believe I have something great going on, it’d be a shame if I don’t express it all out to more people!

What was the last song you listened to?

Gravity by John Mayer.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Vinyl and Streaming platforms.
Listening to vinyl is a style, it’s a classic living enjoyment; listening to streaming platform is an inevitable future, more accessible and playful.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

That’d be my Personal Website and YouTube Channel and Instagram Account.

The Review

This track starts out with just a guitar that leads into the vocals. This track is totally unplugged. Willy Kuo has an outstanding voice very inviting. The way he plays his guitar is like he is playing the drum parts along with the guitar,  he is an fantastic guitar player, very impressive. He starts out singing, "This sky has dropped all this rain on my face." This is a track about change, walk away from you sins of the past. And what the past does to you in the future, how it leaves  scares. In one part of the song Willy states that, "This is a wake up call".  This is a track that almost every one can relate to. Everyone has gone though tough times in their lives, God knows I have. But this track is about change for the better realizing the life you are living now might not be the life you should be living and you might just need a wake up call to make a change.

In Conclusion,  This is a track that I think everyone has experienced in their life or perhaps is going through it now. This song gives you hope for change. The track states that it will be hard to do and you will be left with scars from the live that you used to live. Willy Kuo's "Falling Rain" was well played. His guitar playing was just outstanding. The way he played rhythm with harmonics was just gorgeous. His voice was inviting so much that you get sucked in to his story that he is telling the listeners. This is a song that you readers should check out. For some it just might make you think about your own life so you can be free to be who you really are.

Tamara Stewart has a single coming, "Mean Girl"

Lets get to know Tamara Stewart!

Nashville-based Australian-born singer/songwriter Tamara Stewart is one of Music City’s most revered creatives, having established herself in the city since relocating in 2014. However, she has flown somewhat under the radar in the UK until now, and all that is sure to change as a new potentially career re-defining chapter commences for the esteemed performer.

As a songwriter, Tamara has penned several #1 radio hits for numerous artists in her native country. She has scored outstanding successes of her own too, including five acclaimed albums and countless Australian Awards. Her single ‘Haunted House’ pulled from her self-proclaimed ‘divorce recovery’ album “The Truth, The Music and Me” - released in 2019 - has further put her on the map and allowed her to make inroads into the British market.

In March, the hitmaker will tour Britain with the UK’s very own Elles Bailey which will reunite Tamara with her growing number of UK Americana music fans, and give her the opportunity to again, showcase her warm yet powerful vocal, and uniquely raw songwriting style to an ever growing fanbase.

Following her highly successful podcast series in 2019 to pair with her album “The Truth, The Music and Me”, Tamara returns with a new podcast later this month “Heal My Story” where she will explore the world of healing and creativity, diving deeper into the relationship our creative parts play in our healing journey. This podcast will partner with the release of Tamara's first single from her long awaited new album set for release mid 2023. The first single “Mean Girl” will launch on February 3rd.

Her long standing success to date lists Major award wins, TV and Radio chart success and touring Festivals and Various Venues across many countries and many years.  2023 launches a time for Tamara to truly stand in her own creative and personal truth and lead us to a refined version of who she is as a performer, a writer and an extremely relatable Woman in this day and age, who has experienced a life of both healing and damage, trauma and triumphs.

Her own storytelling vulnerability through both voice and story, results in Tamara singing about the things women everywhere can agree are sometimes hard to speak about. There’s no denying Stewart’s success and talent thus far, and this New Year she will no doubt become one of UK's most revered women in music. Tamara will also tour her adopted homeland of the USA, and later in the year bring her show to her beloved Motherland Australia. This upcoming run of tour dates, the new single, and podcast series will put the spotlight on her incredible artistry and British fans are going to deepen their connection to her music.

“It’s not only her warm yet powerful vocal, nor is it simply her unique raw songwriting and storytelling abilities, it is Tamara herself. Between songs she’s funny, endearing, honest and truly is a rare and precious talent. You'll laugh, you’ll possibly shed a tear, But you’ll hear her truth and you’ll be entertained” [Exeter Daily].

The Review, "Mean Girl" Release Date: Friday the 3rd of February

Wow, what a voice! That is the first thing that you notice right off the bat in this track along with guitars being strummed that set the mood to the story that Tamara is about to tell the listener's. This is a track about a good friend telling their friend that maybe they did not make the right love choice and now they are in a position. You get sucked right in to the story line as Tamara sings you are wanting to know what she has to say next. The Band is absolutely fantastic adding to the scene that you are picturing in your mind of these two friends having this talk about this mean man. I'm telling you readers I got all caught up in this track. This track had me intensely listening to what she had to say next.

In conclusion, If you want to listen to a great song and a outstanding story, this track is it!
not only will you be sucked in the story line, you will also be tapping your toes and bobbin your head to the music of this track. What a fabulous song about life, how sometimes we don't make too good of choices even though in the moment we think we do,but later we find out we were so wrong.

The Mind Behind Mungo Jerry

It's always Summertime with Mungo!

During the early 70’s, television viewers would have seen Mungo Jerry as a regular on Top of the Pops. In the first four years of the decade Mungo Jerry had eight hit singles, but the one single most associated with them was In The Summertime. It was a global hit and went to number one in 26 countries, selling 6 million copies. To date it has now sold over 30 million and been covered by such greats as Bob Dylan and Elton John. It is officially the most played summer song of all time and has won Ray Dorset a Sony, MTV and Ivor Novello award.

But quite apart from all that Ray is a good friend and one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. That’s why he had no choice but to answer some of my lame questions.

If you could be any other musician past or present, which one would it be and why?

I don’t want to be any other musician except for myself, past or present. I’m just me and that’s it.

Note: We are too Ray!

If you had to name one song from any genre that really speaks to you, which one would it be and why?

I like songs from all kinds of genres. I like all kinds of stuff so I’m not going to say that one song is better than the other and any song particularly speaks to me. But obviously, from my career, and I’ve written what is the supposedly most known summer song in the whole world. Lyrically line by line you can pull out lots and lots of underlying sentiments within the phrases of the texts.

So I guess I would choose In The Summertime, so I don’t think I need to pull at any other one, any other people’s songs out there at all.

Are you a Mulder or Scully? Do you believe aliens have visited planet earth and if so what do you think they think about mankind?

I’m sure aliens have visited planet earth, because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen aliens.

I came back from a gig, must have been in the mid seventies, I was in Surrey, and in the early hours of the morning, I saw a cold kind of army of what looked like aliens crossing the road.

They were walking like two at a time behind each other. They had little kind of antennas on their head and their eyes were quite big and oval shaped and I thought I was actually seeing things. I didn’t believe it, but I thought maybe it was a group of deer, because there’s a lot of deer out that way.

The person that was with me saw them as well. So yes I do believe we have aliens probably among us and certainly I am convinced right up until this day that I have seen aliens on planet Earth, in Frencham in Surrey.

What do they think about mankind, well I haven’t got a clue. But if I was an alien and came to planet earth, round about this time, I’d say “what a strange place, why have we got so many earthlings, that have got a beautiful planet and they have decided to mess the whole place up, by overloading it with rubbish, plastic?” We’ve got climate change and global warming.

Nobody seems to pay attention to looking after the planet. Everyone seems to be more interested in what they can get out of it, make as much money as they possibly can to the detriment of their brothers and sisters.

For many years I’ve believed that the whole misuse of technology is messing up the whole world, and it has done for generations and generations.

You’ve got this problem with jealousy and pride and greed and honour and ego, and if we can get rid of all that and get rid of the ego you’ll probably get people to be more easygoing and less uptight about everything.

Postindustrial Poets and Time To Act - A Song About You

How it all came together...

Postindustrial Poets https://www.cooltop20.nl/in-the-spotlight/in-the-spotlight-the-postindustrial-poets/ are an alt-rock project, founded by Pete, a Brit living in Luxembourg. They have been recording since 2019 and began releasing in 2020. For their upcoming release ‘A Song About You’ they joined forces with Belgium based act Time to Act – the project of Manu Pallage, who is primarily a lyricist.

Pete: “We met before playing a gig in Belgium in November 2021. So Manu saw Postindustrial Poets live and knew what he was getting into! He made a big impression by immediately singing a Postindustrial Poets song to us – ‘I Was In Two Minds’!” https://open.spotify.com/track/1PtOSOaHZvpanNL7H270Bx?si=zJWjP9WWT2WdelAHPkmunw

Manu asked if Pete would be interested in collaborating on a song and sent the lyrics over. Pete was in charge of the recording, which was all done in Luxembourg.

Manu: “Well, we were sitting by the pool in Umbria and I realized how lucky I was. I started to write about my better half. It took me a good hour writing it down as it was all obvious, but it took me three days to dare letting her read it. And … she cried…”

Pete: “The cover art is a photo of Manu’s wife – so the person the song is about. It is a romantic song. That is why we timed the release for the run up to Valentine’s Day!”

Manu wrote the lyrics a couple of years ago. He sent them to Pete of Postindustrial Poets https://www.cooltop20.nl/in-the-spotlight/in-the-spotlight-the-postindustrial-poets/ in early June 2022. They then spent a couple of months sitting on Pete’s piano – where he would work on parts of the tune between other projects. Manu wasn’t very prescriptive about how it should sound, but obviously wanted a big arrangement. Pete was interested in doing something with the kind of arrangement you used to get from big West Coast studios.

“The song is pretty chilled. At the centre of the arrangement is a pretty typical band sound: guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion. But around that you have cellos and double bass adding some depth and complexity to the sound. And there was a point where everyone said it was ready and Pete said “we are not there yet”. And he went away and wrote a countermelody for oboes that goes through the chorus. That does bring the chorus to life.”

Pete: “To me it sounds different from anything either of us have done before. And for me it was the first time I have tried to turn someone else’s lyrics into music – it was an interesting challenge!”

Pete: “The lyrics obviously have a special meaning to Manu and his wife, and there were things in the original lyric that probably meant something very specific to them. But I had to edit it down, and so I focused on keeping the parts that will mean something to – I hope – most people. I hope at the end of the editing it is still special to them, and that they will speak to a lot of people…”

‘A Song About You’ will be out 25th January. A Pre-Save  https://t.co/n6a2lAOumLis available.

The Review...

This track starts out with that groovy vibe to it. This track has amazing instrumentation with strings playing slightly in the background. The drums are well played with a subtle rim shot along with the kick drum the sets the pace of the groove to this track. the bass line is really nice it flows perfectly with the drums and the guitar that is playing in unison that leads in to the vocals singing, "She Smiles So Sweetly, And Said Why Don't You Write A Song About Me". These lovely lyrics was written by Time To Act. This is a wonderful love song. That kinds of love song that you would play for someone that you would want them to know that you really love them inside and out.

In Conclusion, If you ever want to let some that you love know that you love them, well this is the song for you. This song has a groovy but lovely feel to it. I also love the fact that they incorporated stringed instruments in the song that gives the song a romantic touch. I love the message of love between two people even if one of them has faults at times. This is an all around great love song that you can listen to time and time again.

Life and its meaning

Life can be short and life can be long. Often it depends upon your point of view. To us the life of a bee seems rather short, but not to the bee. The length of life however should not be a concern, more to the point, it ought to be the way we live it that matters. The bee does exactly as it is programmed to do by nature and knows no more and desires nothing more because of it. We on the other hand are conscious beings – we know more and so paradoxically we desire more, thus causing strife and striving. Our life is a multi-faceted and intricate web of individualities, both exoteric (outside of our selves) and esoterically (within ourselves). We are many different people, affected by many different people. This complicates our life yet further, but so do other things such as fear.

Fear is s prime mover in our lives. We may not be aware of it, but it is a fact. Until we overcome our fear we shall not be truly free – so say almost all mankind’s wisdom texts. But first we must come to recognise this fear and its many faces. Fear can be as simple as worrying about how the bills are going to be paid or as complex as the subconscious notions of our position within our immediate peer group. It is a strong and subtle element of our psyche that is used against us by those who would manipulate us. The Church has for generations utilised fear in all-manner of ways to cajole the sheep into the pen. So too have governments and today we have the added bonus of the commercial world adding extra fear on top. Now individuals get stuck by their fears and run frantic on the hamsters wheel of greed, envy, lust, desire and all-kinds of other “sins.” The companies use slick advertising to convince us that we mustn’t miss out on the next big thing and so we run off to the bank, borrow huge sums of money and spend all our lives working to pay for the things we now cannot enjoy. Nature is free, it is there waiting for us to rejoin it. Unfortunately we are too busy running away from the hell of the Church, the taxman of the State and the overdraft manager of the bank, to enjoy it. Do not think that you are reading this objectively, you know that you are subject, as we all are in one form or another. No man is free, unless he frees himself. The question is, do we even know that we are in chains? And that is the first move we must make to find true freedom – we must look long and hard in the mirror of our life. In the end, these are our fears and are not owned by religion, state or company.

Whether we are talking about alchemy, gnosticism or just plain spirituality the fact is that we are told again and again, sometimes in arcane language and sometimes not, that we have to burn off the bad stuff. We have to reduce ourselves down to the original core, to the seed that started it all, because most of what we think we are is really somebody else.

Once we have worked out that we are not “James Bond” or anybody else, and that we are unique individuals then we can move forward with our lives properly. Now we can look in the mirror and see who we are we must also understand that we do have connection to others, but that we must not “become” others. We are in fact natural beings, connected to nature, to the landscape, the beasts, the sea and the wind. All these things touch our lives and we touch them. It’s free, it doesn’t cost us anything and so we don’t have to run around the Hamster’s Wheel like a crazed rodent.

I know, there will be people mumbling to themselves saying “but I have kids, a job, a car to pay for….” And yes, most people do these days, but the question has to be – how much “stuff” do we really need? Just because some marketing man has told you to buy something because Mr and Mrs Jones next door have already ordered one doesn’t mean you should. That scenario is playing on our fears – that we won’t be as good as our neighbours. One less thing of no worth bought is one less worry and fear. I don’t need a new lawnmower, my old one still works. I don’t need a television, it’s full of rubbish, sells me more crap and keeps me fearful. As author Tim Wallace-Murphy said to me recently, “it’s a bloody one eyed monster.” I don’t need a new computer, this one is good enough. I only need to know who I am, to see the glory of nature and be awe inspired by the fact that I am part of it.

A small example of how innocent our connection to nature came to me when I visited my sister on her land in Wales. She lives in an old stone cottage in deep countryside. The lane to her home is winding, steep and perilous in winter. But it is a place of solace and a world away from the bustling streets of London or New York. I took a day out with my two small children and we ventured off for a day in the fields, woods and to picnic by her stream. I allowed the children to run wild – to know no boundaries, like the ones they have in suburbia. For the whole day they played in the stream, climbed trees, ran in the fields and fed the goats. It cost nothing and yet they were elated, well-behaved and we drove home tired and yet refreshed. On other occasions I have taken them to fun parks, which cost a lot of money, were full of people, sights, sounds and smells. We have driven home tired, but certainly not refreshed and it affected the children’s psyche, causing more arguments and confusion. To my mind, this is an evolutionary connection. It is contact with the ancestral genes within us – the path of thousands upon thousands of years of man and his tuning in with nature. This contact has only in the last few hundred years been eroded, so that now we do not even realise what is wrong with us.

There is nothing of faith in this concept, it can be explained scientifically. Just as man’s skin alters pigmentation in different climes, or as stature has altered according to diet, so too man’s emotional and psychological state merges with his surroundings. For a longer time than we can imagine mankind has been as one with nature. He has understood her cycles, walked with the herds, swum with the schools and followed the ebb and flow of the seas and rivers. He tested the foodstuffs and found balance with his diet. All the anthropological evidence points to a distant past whereby man lived in relative harmony, hunting and gathering for a small percentage of his day. His teeth and bones were strong and there are no signs of warfare or unrest. Of course there were fewer people on Earth in those days and our success at survival knew no bounds. Mankind grew, but it was not until he began farming and claiming land and possessions that unrest seems to occur. Dairy farming brought disease. Destroying huge tracts of forests brought changes in the environment. Greed and hunger brought jealousy and the rot set in.

Now thousands of years later we live on islands too small for our population and force the natural world into our way of thinking. We destroy more than we mend. Fear drives us like never before – a fear derived in the evolutionary world of survival.

And because we do not understand our past we ruin the future. Many times we have all heard historians say that we need to know where we came from to know where we are heading and yet this is a frightening thought, for even now in the 21st century we still do not properly comprehend. Our past, we believe, is strewn with the wreckage of human failure and some success. We have the brains to create nuclear energy and then turn it into a bomb. If this is the past we see, then the future we predict for ourselves will be ever more troublesome. Instead we should look further into our past and to the point where we were intuitive of the natural world. This past lasted for a much longer period than our relatively modern settlement scenario. Is it too late? Are there now too many people on the planet? A hundred years ago there were one billion, now there are six billion. The future looks grim for the human race unless it does something soon. Will man awaken to this understanding? Will he realise what he has done in his race to nowhere?

Even now there are growing numbers of people who feel empty and isolated, even though they live amongst thronging crowds. A city is not a community if it does not have a spirit of oneness and our cities, towns and even villages can be places of high technology, fast paced, dog eat dog styled nightmares. Many of those who recognise that something is not right about the way we live are moving back into the countryside. Some take their modern ways of living with them and so also their hamsters wheel in-order to pay for it. Others feel a stronger urge to understand where we came from and to reconnect. What stops us all doing the same thing? A great many things and mostly all rooted in fear.

At the end of the day, whatever our circumstances, we will be better off within ourselves if we understand that we are creatures of the planet earth and not some machine sent to do the bidding of the corporations. We should decide what we want and we can only do this if we know our own minds – our true self. For millennia man has sought this “source” and in every culture it has come to the same conclusion, that the self is the aspect of the human psyche that is intuitively in-tune with nature. To deny this aspect of ourselves is to invite division and turmoil into our lives. The unconscious mind strives for what it has been developed over thousands of years to do – to connect, and yet the conscious mind desires all-manner of things and denies its true role. Our attraction to certain colours, shapes and smells used today to entice us into plastic products and useless insurance are all within us because of evolution. Colours of fruit, shapes and smells of healthy food are all now so long forgotten that we only see, feel and smell the poison of the burger or candy bar, cleverly mocking their natural “alternative.” And this word is an indication of how far we have walked away from our natural state – that we call good wholesome food “alternative” and have to label it “organic” because we genetically engineer and dose our selves up with chemicals. Most people try not to think about it, in the same way they do not see into the beautiful dark eyes of a cow or lamb for fear of being put off their meat. It is a self-defence mechanism, in the same way that our brain turns off our muscles when we go to sleep, to stop us beating ourselves to death.

However far mankind has walked away from his Earth Mother, he has remembered many things and over the course of human history hundreds of individuals have secured their knowledge within texts, symbols, art, structures and ritual. It is to this sacred knowledge that we now turn.

So we very briefly touched upon the connection of man’s inner psyche to the natural world around him. How this is part of our history and forged by our evolutionary instincts. In fact we are following patterns, mathematical equations that simply did not predict that consciousness would create a world like the one we now inhabit. In fact, it was not part of the mathematical equation to predict, but to survive and to be strong. But that does not help our conscious mind, which has to deal with the situation we find ourselves in. How can we be healed of this scare we have created?

Well, me and you are not the first people in existence to comprehend these issues. In fact in every generation there have been men and women who have grappled with the complexity of our disjointed societies. The powerful imagination of mankind has created all-manner of answers to the dilemma. One of these is religion, but in creating these so-called sources of wisdom and spirituality man has created yet more chains. Alpha dominant individuals muscle their way into these well-meaning groups and sects and turn them into grand imperial armies that set out to destroy the weak and collect the chosen ones into the fold. Those individuals who comprehended the truths were simply not numerous and powerful enough to fight and so used intellect and cunning to pass the word. These we know in many names and even some of these groups have been taken over by more powerful ones. Gnostics, Sufi’s, mystics, underground streams, alchemists, Cathars and heretics – their names are many and widespread, but within their philosophies and texts we can discern methods of overcoming our conscious issues to life and find ways of helping even us today.

All the groups I just mentioned and several others are linked through time by a thread. This thread has been worn thin by the religious States of times past, but has nevertheless remained connected from the very earliest groups in a time before Egyptian empires, right through the rise of Christianity and into the modern world. Carl Jung the psychoanalyst was one modern writer who discovered the thread and showed how it had been kept alive during the inquisitorial periods of Catholic Europe by the alchemists. It was the thread of Gnosis – the knowledge of the connection, the Divine element of mankind within each and everyone of us. The language of the alchemists was so obscure that it wasn’t seen on the whole as a threat by the Church and so they either ignored it, or even joined in with it – often hoping to be friends or have influence over the one who discovered gold. Of course, the discovery of gold is an esoteric terminology and not a literal element, but that was lost on the profane.

The alchemist, in simple terms, tells us what to do, in-order to discover the Philosopher’s Stone – the source stone of all, of ourselves. Once we discover this stone we can build again. This stone is the core of our true selves. We have to reduce the body down in-order to find it. This means that we have to get rid of all the things in our lives that do not represent who we really are. All the issues we are carrying with us, created by other people and planted in our minds awaiting a bad harvest. These seeds grow within our minds until we can no longer see ourselves within the weeds. We have to chop down and destroy these weeds in the mind and what we shall reveal will be the seed stone of the Philosopher’s. In modern terms it’s like this: when we watch a television program or go to the cinema we see the modern gods of celebrity world. Whether we like it or not these stars affect us and we take on their personas as if our own weren’t good enough. We are in effect trying to become a character created from within the mind of another individual – it is not even a real person we are trying to emulate. There are evolutionary reasons for this – it revolves around children copying and learning from parents – but we must grow up and realise that we are who we are and we need not become a Hollywood clone. Over the course of a lifetime and to differing degrees, we all clone other people and take on the attributes we like. We all start wearing “badges”, whether this be a Rock t-shirt or a Freemasonic apron. It is as if these badges help us to become who we think we are and eventually we no longer know where we came from. Imagine if you can all the people and influences on your life and how you have developed because of all those influences. Now imagine trying to burn them all out of your mind – what would you be left with? Does this scare you? It does most people and so you may be among good company. This is why alchemy was hard, not for the feint hearted and was seen as the Great Work. The same was true of the Cathars, some of the Gnostics and all-manner of groups who understood these concepts, albeit in different form and language. To be “perfected” and “pure” meant not to have any of the impurities of this world. It is a job we must undertake if we are to discover ourselves properly and it is a job that cannot suddenly happen over night – there is no red or blue pill.

How do we go about beginning this work I hear many ask? Well, in fact we are all individuals and so there are many ways, but the truth is that we are all pretty much alike at the core too. We all have to take a serious look at the esoteric mirror – at what lies within. We have to start with the mundane and work through the layers we have built up. I often tell people to begin with actions, because they speak volumes about an individual. Think about what you do and how you react and then ask yourself if you are reacting intuitively or are you acting in a specific way that you have learned from another clone? Do you smile peacefully because you saw the Dalai Lama do it? Or do you smile because your inner psyche tells you to? We all have many actions and reactions in life and so there will be a lot of hard work here, but do this as part of your everyday life. Put up a sticker somewhere that says “was that YOU?”

Eventually and with effort you will begin to understand your own mind and recognise in yourself and others when these clone-like spectres are talking. It will not be easy – that is the only certainty I can offer. But the rewards are manifest in the freedom of mind. You will obtain for yourself the freedom not to be fearful.

Once we have begun this process and stayed the course for some time there are other things we must learn. I know I keep repeating this in my work, but the truth is, it is of such profound importance that I will probably still be repeating it on my death bed. We must learn, on every level of our inner and outer lives the art of balance. Only once we have discovered that balance is important will we understand the truth of this statement. If I try to walk into a Temple by walking into one of the entrance pillars I will hurt myself. If I walk in the centre, between the pillars, which hold up the Temple, then I shall enter the holy place. The pillars are male (positive) and female (negative) aspects of ourselves and the Temple’s holy place holds the stone that fell from heaven – the Philosopher’s Stone – the source – our selves. Balance out our lives and much more will follow.

The Quivering Palm Up Coming EP... "Perpetual Motion Vol. 1"

About The Quivering Palm

The Quivering Palm is the solo project of Kevin "KP" Hahn where alternative rock and indie pop hold hands.

About the EP

This EP is the first of a trilogy where each song leads directly into the next. Additionally, the last song of each EP will lead into the first of the next as well so when the trilogy is finished it will be like one seamless 18 track album.

The idea of perpetual motion, although unrealistic, fascinated me in my youth. I used to draw imaginary machines like the one shown in the album's cover art that could almost work in the real world if it weren't for those pesky laws of physics.

While the album’s single “Bittersweet Escapes” is on all the major streaming sites and the song “Uninspired” is playing on various indie radio stations, this EP will only be available for purchase on Bandcamp at https://thequiveringpalm.com at this time.

Releases March 24, 2023

Track list:
1.Fading Photographs 05:10
2.Uninspired 04:13
3.In the Zone 01:17

Douglas Bales has a 2 track single, a tribute to Joe Strummer.

About Doug Bales

Doug Bales has been a drummer, he reckons, for about 35 years. For much of that time, he’s been playing behind his mates in Uncle Lightnin’. Friends since childhood, the band made music together in the early 1990s. About seven years ago he began playing with Travis Kilgore and Mark “Porkchop” Holder in the trio MPH. But most recently he’s played a couple of gigs with a band of his own called Doug Bales and The Upstarts. He’s written a bunch of songs ( several of which date back to the days when he was with Uncle Lightnin’) and recently released an EP. The lead song on the Ep is a tribute to Joe Strummer. He played that song and a number of the other new songs in the studio in the library with Uncle Lightnin’ playing behind him. At some point, he figures to put his own band together and take them on the road. In the meantime for this session he’s back with the band he calls his “family.”

The Review

The first track from this single I'll be reviewing is, "Saint Joe" (A Tribute To Joe Strummer). This track  starts out with drums and a guitar hum setting the stage for this track. then comes in the drums, that leads into the vocals. This bands sound is like early 90's punk rock. the lyrics at the break states, (Saint Joe, Saint Joe, We Need You More Than Ever.." This track has a rich guitar sound along with with that punk style vibe. The drums are phenomenal and the bass line dances with vocals and  drums. If your into punk rock, I definitely recommend you listen to this track, you won't be disappointed.

The second track that I reviewed is, "Sing This Song".  This song starts out with a piano, guitar and the vocalist. The piano play chords in a soft manner. Along with the piano what is being sung is, " Ain't enough pints in heaven, To Help Me Sleep Tonight". God know I relate. I've been there once or twice in my life. This song is just Beautiful with the piano and guitar playing together in a bluesy fashion. This track is amazing with the piano melody and the guitar leads stetting the mood fro the track. This track is just piano, guitar, bass, and the vocalist singing about hardship.. This has to be my favorite track on this two song single. This track is a must listen to.

In conclusion, this two track single is amazing. The style between the two singles is different in nature. But it seems from my point of view that they are both about the same subject, one needing a saint more that ever, and the other track about the blues of life. I think we can relate to these two track to our own lives. At least I did, readers give Doug Bales tracks a listen and sit back and think to yourself about the hard time's and the longing for better in all our lives.

The Marseille's has a single coming 01/20/23 .... "Only Just Begun"

 Meet the Marseille's...

Marseille are a young rock n roll band formed in late 2021 in Derby, England. The band consists of Will Brown, Joe Labram, Lennon Hall, Tom Spray and most recently Felix Moxey. Signed to Birmingham based label ADR Records, the 90's Madchester scene and the 60's Merseybeat is where Marseille draw most their influences from.

In 2022 Marseille, have already had some success with the singles "Forget It All" which was played on Soccer Am and the 9 minute monster "The Jungle". Over the summer, the band have also performed at the Y-Not and Isle Of Wight Festivals.

With an average age of 18, Marseille are sure to go far…

About, "Only Just Begun"...

The single will drop on the 20th of January 2023 across all major streaming platforms.

The new single “Only Just Begun” is a great call back to Marseille’s 60’s Mersey-beat inspired sound with hints of the 60’s psychedelia movement. With sweet sounding guitar riffs oozing with a bright sunny sound taking you to a sunny day. A song jam packed with glorious hooks and jangles and a great sing-along catchy chorus.

Marseille lead singer and songwriter, Will Brown, had this to say about the song:

“The song is written about a relationship that ended too soon which I’m sure is something a lot of people have experienced. Something full of potential just ends for a silly reason. This song just reflects that and tells a story of feelings and what happened over the course of that time”

The Review..."Only Just Begun"

You readers are in for a treat! The Marseille track "Only Just Begun" is a delightful track. The track starts out with a cloud of guitars that sound as if they were dancing with the bass line. The bass line is incredible in this track. The Vocalist has a voice that is easy on your ears. The drums complement the guitar's and bass. This track has a soft feel to it, very inviting. The end of the track there are some vocal effects that sound fantastic.

In conclusion, The Marseille's track "Only Just Begun" is the kind of track you can sit down and relax and just listen to the melody and drift away in this track. This is a must listen to Band. You won't be let down to what you hear.

Monument Zero... Single, "Maść na wszy "

About Monument Zero

Monument Zero is an occasional trio consisting of: Łukasz Bejnar, laptop-man from the lo-fi electro project Uchylak, Tomek Osiński, vocalist of the sludge band O.D.R.A and multi instrumentalist, Darek Jackowski. The formation started as a duo in September 2021, and on November 1 of the same year it published its debut s / t album online.
In 2022 they became trio with Darek.
Their first material stylisticall oscillates around electro and hard-tekno, while the verbal layer is a piece of brutal turpistic poetry filled with futuristic visions. The whole thing is a soundtrack to a non-existent post-apocalyptic movie. Their new album will be released probably in this year's spring. Ointment for lice is its herald.
